Epoxy Failure Reason for Bridge Canopy Falling
It has been all over the news, epoxy blamed for bridge rail falling onto major Atlanta highway below. Reports say the same epoxy was used in a failure years prior in a different state when tiles fell and killed a person. Epoxies are used successfully world wide today in all areas of life and in industries to save thousands, if not millions of dollars each year.
Over my 22 plus years in the epoxy business I can catagorize all epoxy failures into 1 of 3 areas.
- Product Selection - has the right epoxy been picked based on the specific applications (there is not one epoxy that will fit every case, and products have a massive range of performance characteristics)
- Surface Preparation - no matter how good the epoxy is, surface preparation is directly related to the performance and life expectancy of an epoxy
- Application of the epoxy - this includes mixing ratios, completely mixing, how the material is actually applied to the substrate and curing)
Bottom Line: Used in right areas epoxies can save time, money, replacement costs, etc. but no matter how small the project make sure to contact your local technical consultant who has been factory trained by the manufacturer of the epoxy!
